Tickets & Things to Do

Booked my flight to Prague yesterday. Then had the sudden realization that I'M GOING TO PRAGUE. Of course, I only have my flight TO Prague. So far, I'm there indefinitely.  Minor details.

I started working on a budget for my trip and the amount of money is so low that I think I must have left something significant out. But, of course, by low I mean about $5000 or so. But surely that's not all. Hmm. I guess we'll see.

Speaking of things we'll see... or something like that... I am compiling a list of things to do while I'm in Prague. Here's my musts so far:

#1: See Don Giovanni at the Estates Theatre, where Mozart premiered it in October 1787. Mozart had a sort of love affair with Prague, at one point saying "Meine Prager verstehen mich" ("My Praguers understand me"). (a) It's Mozart. (b) Have you seen this theatre? Holy man.

#2: Go watch some HC Praha Sparta. Uh... duh. And they play against the New York Rangers on 29 September. Obviously I have to see that. While I'm at it, I should probably go see HC Slavia Praha, the other hockey team in Prague. It's gonna be my fill while I can't see/be at Canucks games. :)

#3: Drink some Pilsner while in Plzeň, the birthplace of Pilsner Beer. In fact, it is a goal of mine to drink more beer while in the Czech Republic than I ever have before. Or something to that degree. Because, did you know that the Czech Republic has the highest per capita consumption of beer in the WORLD? Seriously. 158.6 Liters per capita, ahead of Ireland's 131.1 and Germany's 110.

#4: See the Astronomical Clock in Old Town which has been operating since 1490. 1490! Holy crow. Apparently it's not that spectacular, as it's "party trick" is simply that every hour on the hour some wooden saints pop out. Woo. But, really, it looks beautiful.

#5: Get lost in Prague. I've read that Prague, along with Amsterdam and Venice, is one of those places where the best experience is to just wander around and get lost. I can window shop, see random old buildings full of Czech charm (haha, Czech charm), grab a pint of beer at one of many specialty beer pubs, and stumble upon relics that have gone untouched since they were built, since Prague was one of the only places in Europe untouched by the devastation of the World Wars.

So, there you have it. My first 5 things I must do while in Prague. I know I'll add more to the list as the time gets closer, and when I do in fact go do these things, I'll let you know what it's like. :)
